Food Allergy Awareness
Posted on 09/15/2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We have children with severe allergies in all of our grades.  As a part of our commitment to being an “Allergy Aware” school, we are asking for your assistance in helping to make our school safe for these students.  Below is a list of foods that are common to children with food allergies.

  • Peanuts
  • Nuts
  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Fish/Shellfish
  • Soy
  • Wheat
  • Sesame

If exposed to even a small amount of this food the student may develop a life-threatening allergic reaction that requires emergency medical treatment.  Our new school wide policy requires the following:

  • Students with life threatening allergies will adhere to a strict no sharing food policy

While tables are cleaned in between lunches, we still ask that your child opt for allergen free food items whenever possible. With assigned seating (for contact tracing purposes) it is more obvious when kids with life threatening allergies need to remove themself from an unsafe situation. We will work with these children to self-advocate and create a system that allows for alternative seating, but with the cooperation of all families, we would like to minimize isolating children with allergies or children who choose to bring allergens to school. If your child develops an allergy, please let us know immediately.  We thank you in advance for helping to make our school as safe as possible for all of our children.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call 617-376-5204.
